Vertech announce first acquisition of local marine micro ROV specialist Geo Oceans

Monday 22nd February 2016

Vertech have today announced the acquisition of leading subsea technology company, Geo Oceans. The Perth-based industry leader in micro ROV technology joins the portfolio of companies of the award winning Scotland-based energy sector service group with immediate effect.

Geo Oceans is an innovator of safe, cost-efficient and powerful ROV technology used in marine inspection and survey tasks. It has worked closely with Perth-based company, Vertech, on a number of projects and recently team members from both companies travelled to the United States to meet with several key organisations to discuss upcoming collaborative projects.

With its diverless subsea technology tried and tested in major pipeline and offshore facility inspection projects in the southern hemisphere, the acquisition of Geo Oceans will enable Vertech’s parent company Global Energy Group to bring cost efficiencies to its clients worldwide in the oil and gas industry through the innovation of ever smaller, more powerful and cheaper ROV technology.

Previous projects have seen the company inspect submerged or subsea structures including: floating and fixed offshore assets; vessel internal ballast and water tanks; risers, turrets and moorings; pylons and wharves; seawalls and dam walls; diffusers and discharge lines; pump intakes; and water storage tanks.

Vertech Managing Director, Ben Charlton, commented: “This is a large achievement and very proud moment in Vertech’s history. Welcoming Geo Oceans to the team and greater Global Energy Group creates extended capabilities internally and gives us depth to our service offering in both the domestic and international market place. This continues Vertech's focus of bringing together talent in the form of people as well as innovative solutions to the market place which is craving for new clever techniques, tools and approaches."

Post-acquisition Geo Oceans will retain its entire workforce and continue to be headed up by existing Managing Director, Ben Brayford. Speaking about the acquisition, Brayford said:

“Vertech’s acquisition of Geo Oceans sees two industry leading companies join forces. With a truly international reach, being part of Vertech and the GE Group will facilitate the export of our Western Australian based company’s capabilities to markets beyond Australasia at a time when a number of innovations are seeing our ROV technology get ever smaller, more powerful and cost-effective.

“This is an exciting new chapter for Geo Oceans and our skilled and dedicated team and will enable us to achieve our aim of expanding our operations globally to meet a growing marketplace in Oil & Gas but also in the Renewables, Utilities and Nuclear sectors.”

We'll be teaming up to exhibit at AOG Perth 2016 later this week between 24 and 26 February, 2016 so come and visit us!
